Imphal, April 21 2020: A review meeting on the current situation of COVID-19 in Chandel and Tengnoupal districts was held today in the conference hall of Chandel district administration.

Water Resources and YAS Minister Letpao Haokip who is also COVID-19 in-charge of Chandel and Tengnoupal districts chaired the review meeting.

District level officers of the two districts including SPs, SDOs of Chandel, Chakpikarong and Khengjoy blocks, CMOs of the two districts, District Supply Officers and District Surveillance Officer, Chandel attended the meeting.

Officials who attended the meeting presented a detailed report of how the two districts which are located on international border have been fighting against COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking to media persons after the review meeting, Letpao Haokip said that combating COVID-19 in the two districts is a big challenge for the people settled along 100 Kms of the international border particularly villagers of Molcham, New Somtal etc directly depend on the markets of neighbouring Myanmar for their daily requirements.

As the international border has been sealed following the COVID-19 pandemic, the border villages have been reeling under extreme misery.

The review meeting held today focused on mitigating the plight of border villages, Letpao said.

Taking serious note of the plight of people settled in border areas, the State Cabinet had already discussed about identification of some fair price shops through which essential items would be supplied to the border villages, Letpao continued.

As no police personnel or health workers are stationed in the border areas, the district administrations have been facing a serious challenge.

The matter would be taken up with the Chief Minister, Letpao said.

He said that he would provide some quantity of rice for police personnel who have been on duty day and night combating the COVID-19 pandemic.

Although there is some shortage of ambulances, thermo scanners, masks, PPE etc for combating the contagion, the way district administrations of the two districts including SPs, CMOs and CSOs have been tackling the situation is quite commendable, Letpao remarked.

After the review meeting, Letpao Haokip distributed rice to the people of Chandel.
