Sagolsem Indrakumar awarded

The Sangai Express (Manipuri) columnist and officer (retired) of Indian Broadcasting (Programme) Service, Sagolsem Indrakumar Singh has been conferred with the prestigious Sahitya Akademi's Bal Sahitya Puraskar (award) for his Manipuri language children book entitled 'Thada Thabaton' .
Indrakumar was among 24 authors of children literature from across the country who were honoured with the Bal Sahitya Puraskar at an awards presentation ceremony held this evening at Balgandharva Rangamandir auditorium in Pune of Maharashtra.
The awards presentation ceremony was held with eminent Marathi writer Anil Awachat and Akademi's acting president Vishwanath Prasad Tiwari as the chief guest and functional president respectively.
A well known writer of children literature, Sagolsem Indrakumar's 'Thouna Phaba Khambaton' had also bagged the national Prize in the national Prize Competition for Children Literature 1977-78, sponsored by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), new Delhi.

He also translated 'The Story of One Thousand and One Nights' and Carlo Collodi's 'Pinochhio' into Manipuri and has so far published nine books.
A multiple award winner for producing radio dramas and features, Indrakumar retired as Station Director, Doordarshan Kendra Jorhat after serving in All India Radio and Doordarshan in various capacities.
He is presently president of Patriotic Writers' Forum, Manipur.
Besides indrakumar, Santanoo Tamuly of Assam is the other award winner from the North East region.
