Highlighting the importance of oral health, a number of unabsorbed dental surgeons have come together and formed the All Manipur Unemployed Dental Surgeons' Association on March 17 and urged the Government to create more posts and absorb them for the benefits of those who cannot afford to consult private clinics.
In a statement the dental surgeons said that oral health is important for the general health of the people.
'The health of the mouth, teeth and gums can affect our general health' said the statement and added that there is an intimate connection between oral health and overall health.
Oral diseases and disorders affect the general health and the well-being of the people.
To improve general health, one should focus on the quality of life through the attainment of optimal oral health of all the people in the State, added the statement.
Among others, the meeting held on March 17, discussed the grievances of dental surgeons, the non-absorption of dental doctors by the State Government and lack of dental doctors in the interior areas of the State.
There are a number of PHCs, CHCs and other peripheral units but the absorption by the Government of Manipur is very low, said the statement and added that a lot of dental surgeons are unemployed and are unable to utilize their skills.
This is matter of concern and the Government needs to intervene, it said and added that the creation of more posts is necessary so that a large number of doctors who are unemployed can be absorbed.
Dental surgeons who are yet to be admitted to the association have been urged to register their names with the association.
