Imphal, January 20, 2011: Beauty with brain lived upto to its name and fame in the �Queen of Mystic East' contest held at Imphal as two Government school teachers won the first and second runners' up prizes besting the others.

Assamese belle Kashturi Borkokoty, who grabbed the coveted queen title, in fact has a deep desire to undergo further studies and get a PhD in her subject, Philosophy, treading along a somehwat similar line.

On Wednesday night twenty contestants drawn from Assam, Manipur, Nagaland and Meghalaya vied for the coveted crown that also carries a cash prize of Rs I.2 lakh at Bheigyachandra Open Air Theatre (Boat) at the historic palace compound in the heart of Imphal.

First runners up Sangita Phukan (21) from Assam's Jorhat district is teaching in a Government higher secondary school there.

Phukan, who is doing her master's degree in English literature, has also written four novels in Assamese, thus blending beauty, grace and brain.

" I love modeling but it wouldn't permit me to continue for long as I grow older.

Hence I went into teaching.

With the prize money of Rs 80,000 I won from Wednesday's contest I'll invest it in my educational career," Sangita, who stands at 5.10 feet said.

Sangita, who also won Miss Barak held in Senapati district last year with a cash prize of Rs one lakh, also grabbed the Miss Photogenic sub title in the Imphal contest organized by the Youth Initiative Foundation (Yif).

Commenting on her deep enthusiasm in writing , Sangita said " when I was seventeen I penned down my first Assamese novel � Mukhapindha Manuh'.

Later I wrote � Ardhangini �, � Jibon Dobakhelon Dhal' and Mondakinir Pora Alakanda Nandaloi' in a row." Second runners up Roseleen Kayiakhrasi from Senapati district who went home with a cash prize of Rs 50,000 too is a government UJB school teacher.

"I'm also pursuing my BSc and after holding this degree I'll do B Ed to streamline my teaching profession," the 21 year-old-tribal beauty said.

She also won the Miss Teen title held in 2004. 18-year old Kashturi, who won the title is currently studying her Bachelor's degree in Philosophy in Delhi University as well as pursuing her modeling career in the national capital.

The Assamese beauty, who has presented forty reputed fashion parades in different parts of the county, also showcased in the Delhi Commonwealth Games last year.

"I feel so happy to won the Imphal contest title.

I'll continue with modeling and with my studies.

At least I'll pursue to get a Phd degree in Philosophy and write a book on my experiences," Kashturi said.
