Lt Gen MMS Rai designated as GOC-in-C Eastern Command

Lt Gen MMS Rai who is presently Chief of Staff of Jaipur based South Western Command has been designated as GOC-in -C (Army Commander) Eastern Command.
Lt Gen MMS Rai, an alumnus of National Defence Academy Khadakwasla, was commissioned from the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun into the Corps of Engineers on Dec 15, 1976 .
He excelled in academics as well as in the sports arena and was awarded the Bronze Medal for having the distinction of being third in the overall order of merit in the IMA Passing Out Parade, according to Defence Spokesperson (MOD), Col SD Goswami.
Lt Gen Rai possesses rich operational and command experience having commanded an Armoured Engineer Regiment in the plains, a Mountain Brigade in the North East and a Rashtriya Rifles Force in Jammu and Kashmir.
The general officer commanded Konark Corps in the Desert Sector of Rajasthan.
He is presently posted as Chief of Staff of South Western Command.
During his military career of over three decades in the Army, he has held various prestigious instructional and staff appointments like Directing Staff at the Indian Military Academy and Defence Service Staff College, Colonel General Staff Operations of a Corps in high altitude, Chief Engineer of a Corps in the Desert Sector, Brigadier General Staff at Army Training Command, Deputy Director General at Military Operations Directorate and Additional Military Secretary at Army Headquarters.
For his devotion to duty and distinguished contribution to service, the General has been awarded Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM) as a Brigadier and Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) as GOC of a Rashtriya Rifles Force in Jammu and Kashmir.
He is presently the Colonel Commandant of the Bombay Engineering Group.
