The State government has ordered today a magisterial inquiry into yesterday�s firing by the Central Reserve Police force (CRPF) personnel on the angry protesters demonstrating against the extension of cease fire area coverage agreed between the NSCN (IM) to parts of Manipur.
He firing incident had left at least 13 persons killed and scores of others injured.
Yesterday thousands and thousands of angry protesters coming from different parts of the state laid siege to the capital town.
They went on rampage setting ablaze the State Assembly complex, the Chief Minister�s Secretariat, the Speaker�s bungalow, MLAs quarters and offices of various political parties.
Reports said that all the dead bodies are still lying at the RIMS morgue as the bereaved families had refused to take them.
All the 13 persons killed have been identified.
Among the who sustained injuries one women�s leg had been amputated.
Meanwhile, the Director General of Police of the state Mr AA Siddiqui has justified the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) firing on the angry protesters.
He said that it was an act of self defence.
The DGP said, an estimated 60000 people had congregated near the Raj Bhavan violating section 144 CrPC.
The security forces persuaded the mob to go back but they broke through the cordon and reached the gates of the Raj Bhavan demanding an audience with the Governor, the DGP stated.
On the other hand, to prevent outbreak of further violence, the army had been called out and an indefinite curfew clamped in the districts, namely Imphal East, Imphal West and Thoubal districts.
The state government had also asked for additional reinforcement.
Though official source informed that the situation is fully under control and that no untoward incident had been reported from anywhere, the situation is really very tense.
