Imphal, May 19 2017:
A public meeting was held today at Singjamei Sapam Leikai on the ramifications of the political dialogue going on between the Government of India and NSCN-IM on the people of Manipur.
Speaking at the meeting organised by the Social Environment Development Organisation (SEDO), UCM vice-president Sunil Karam underscored the importance of working collectively to elicit the contents of the framework agreement signed between New Delhi and NSCN-IM and see if it contains anything inimical to the collective interest of Manipur.
Lauding the efforts of the new Government aimed at fostering harmony and unity between the hill people and plain people, Sunil said that all ethno-centric politics would be disastrous.
He also urged the Government of India to divulge the details of the framework agreement and put to rest people's growing anxiety.
If anything inimical to the interest of Manipur is done by the Government of India based on the agreement in total contradiction to their repeated that it (framework agreement) would not impinge upon the collective interest of Manipur, people of the State would not remain silent.
Rather, the people would fight the Government of India's diabolic policy in befitting manner.
AMSU president Manjit Sarangthem said that people of Manipur cannot afford to treat the framework agreement signed on August 3, 2015 casually.
The framework agreement is like a time bomb which can separate the different communities of Manipur who have been living together since ages.
People need to study the politics behind the last spell of economic blockade which lasted for around four months.
All the people of Manipur ought to condemn any attempt of the Government of India to snap the fraternal bond shared between hill people and plain people.
The Government of India has forfeited the trust of the people of Manipur on different occasions.
It was Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru which gifted away Manipur's Kabow Valley to Myanmar.
Again, it was during the Prime Ministership of Atal Bihari Vajpayee when a ceasefire agreement was signed with NSCN-IM without territorial limits.
This infamous ceasefire declaration literally put Manipur on fire and 18 people lost their lives in the spontaneous mass protest, Manjit said.
The public meeting adopted three resolutions including putting collective pressure on the Government of India to divulge the contents of the framework agreement.
The second resolution says that SEDO would support any mass movement launched towards this end.
The third resolution says that the ongoing political dialogue between New Delhi and NSCN-IM should not disturb the territorial integrity of Manipur nor should it impinge upon the interest of any community of Manipur.
