Imphal, December 17 2016:
Taking a jibe at the demonetisation move of the BJP Government at the Centre, Lok Sabha MP Thangso Baite today claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi rejected the proposal for an open debate on the demonetisation during Parliament's winter session.
He was speaking at the diamond jubilee celebration of Dongjang Presbyterian Church held today at Dongjang village, Churachandpur district.
Criticising the demonetisation move, the Lok Sabha MP said the PM's crackdown on black money has yielded little results and the lower and middle class people are facing the impact due to the policy.
Accusing the BJP Government of being anti-people, the Lok Sabha MP asserted that the Prime Minister rejected the Opposition's call for an open debate during Parliament's winter session.
In bigger cities and towns, demonetisation has little or no impact on the people but in the backward States of the North East where only a small portion of the people have bank accounts, the demonetisation policy has proved a nightmare.
The Congress that brought up the proposal for an open debate on demonetisation at the Parliament was chided and the house adjourned without any fruitful discussion on the matter, the MP alleged.
Under the veil of rooting out black money, the demonetisation move is bringing misery to the daily wage earners, Thangso Baite said.
He has questioned why there is restriction on withdrawal of money from personal accounts.
The restriction has caused lot of discomforts to the people.
The move, Baite added, will take a toll on the economy of the Nation.
Baite also highlighted the miseries caused by the indefinite economic blockade on highways imposed by the UNC.
"Every knows what the UNC is and whose front they are representing.
The public wants to know why the BJP led Government at the Centre is doing nothing to solve the present issue", he inquired.
The BJP is anti-people.
They have endowed power upon a militant group to oppress the people, he alleged.
The diamond jubilee celebration of Dongjang Presbyterian Church was also attended by village chiefs, Pastors and others from Sangaikot, Sugnu, Churachandpur and surrounding areas.
Chief guest MP Thangso Baite unveiled the diamond jubilee memorial stone during the programme.
MPCS Manipur area administrative secretary Reverend C Jorammawai invoked the blessing.
