Pressing home a number of demands, the North Students' Organization, an umbrella body of different student bodies of the North East, has called a bandh from 5 am till 5 pm of October 5 in the entire North East region.
The decision to impose the bandh was taken during the executive council meeting of the student body at Aizawl on September 15.In a statement, NESO said that the meeting resolved to continue with the demand for the revocation of AFSPA from the region and towards this end decided to impose the bandh on October 5.The student body was also unanimous that the problem of influx of illegal immigrants and refugees, especially from Bangladesh should be addressed to find a lasting solution.
Tripura and Assam are already reeling under the influx of migrants from Bangladesh, said the statement and mentioned the refugee problem of the Bru-Reangs and Chakma Hajongs in Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh.
The meeting also resolved to reiterate its demand for 100 pc job reservation (C and D category) and 80 pc reservation (A and B category) in all the Central offices, both public and private sectors located in the NE.
Further the student body also demanded the setting up of a separate zone for the North East and not to club the region in the East zone.
All private multi-national, companies will also be requested to open their offices at the NE region, added the statement.
The meeting also took note of the setting up of the counter-insurgency training camp at Vairengte at Mizoram as the security personnel trained there have been harassing and torturing the people of the region.
The Mizo Zirlai Pawl has been entrusted with the task of studying the merits and demerits of the presence of the CI school at Mizoram.
