Blasts rock Imphal on I-D

Imphal, August 16 2016:
Despite heavy security measures taken up for Independence Day celebration, bomb blasts rocked the State capital at two different localities yesterday.
The first incident occurred at around 8.25 am on the road leading towards Pishumthong from Singjamei near Chinga Assam Rifles post in Imphal West district under Singjamei police station.
The blast was triggered when Independence Day celebration was going on at 1st Bn Manipur Rifles ground.
Soon after the explosion, Imphal West district police and Assam Rifles personnel and State bomb experts rushed to the blast site and inspected the area.
They also checked presence of other bombs at the area.
Nobody was injured in the incident.

After a few minutes, another powerful blast occurred at Tera Keithel in Imphal West district under Lamphel police station at around 8.30 am.
Two elderly persons, identified as Mayanglangbam Modhu (82) and his wife Mema (74) were left in shock by the blast and rushed to RIMS hospital for first aid.
They lost hearing for some time due to the loud sound of the blast.
The suspected IED was planted among the bricks, sand and stones kept on the road side for the ongoing construction works of their house.
Imphal West district police arrived at the blast site and inspected the place.
Meanwhile, locals staged a sit-in-protest in condemnation of the incident at Tera Keithel today.
Women vendors of the market and a large number of womenfolk took part in the protest.
Placards that read, 'Don't take common people as enemies' and 'Don't think bombs are toys' were put up during the protest.
