Sadar Hills echoes with cultural fest

adar Hills came alive today with a cultural festival held at Thomas Ground, Kangpokpi and participated by different communities.
The cultural meet was organised by Sadar Hills ADC in collaboration with Art and Culture Department with the objective of promoting cordiality and peaceful co- existence among different communities inhabiting Sadar Hills.
Presentation of cultural dance and music of different communities was the main highlight of the cultural meet and the cultural troupes were given cash incentives in recognition of their efforts to preserve and promote their respective culture and traditions.
The cultural meet was organised with Rs three lakhs granted by Art and Culture Department which was supplemented by subscriptions made by Members of Sadar Hills ADC.
Cultural troupes belonging to different communities like Thangal, Maring, Mao, Kom, Chiru, Thadou etc participated in the festival.

Vaiphei cultural troupe who won first position in the festival was given cash prize of Rs 15,000 while Sandangshenba Maring cultural troupe who bagged second position was given Rs 13,000 .
Thangkhanphai cultural troupe who secured third position got Rs 12,000 in cash prize.
Other cultural troupes who took part in the cultural meet were also given consolation prizes apart from transportation charges.
Speaking at the occasion, chairman of the organising sub-committee Haokholen Guite conveyed gratitude to Art and Culture Department for its grant of Rs three lakhs towards organising the festival which was aimed at promoting the idea of communal harmony and fraternity among different communities of Sadar Hills.
If the grant is increased by some amount, it would be great incentive towards preserving and promoting indigenous culture and traditions of different communities.
The cultural meet was graced by Sadar Hills ADC Chairman Haokholal Hangshing as chief guest.
