Different bodies, individuals continue to assist COVID-19 affected people with relief items

Imphal, May 13 2020: The United Peoples' Front (UPF), Manipur approached widows below 60 yrs living in the Chanung, Taretkhul, Lamboikhul, Wakhong, Tiger Camp and Yumnam Patlou area of Imphal East district and essential items of rice, potato and onion were distributed to them.

The statement also informed that UPF will continue to extend help for the entire duration of lockdown/curfew to the needy and those affected badly by it.

Different CSOs, organisations and other bodies have also come together to contribute to the cause.

Shree Shyam Mast Mandal proceeds to Mantripukhri
Continuing with its samaritan work of reaching out to the worst affected people due to the ongoing Nationwide shutdown, the Shree Shyam Mast Mandal today distributed basic necessities to five families with no sources of income at Mantripukhri.

The relief materials distributed today included dal, rice, mustard oil, milk powder, flour.

Earlier the Shree Shyam Mast Mandal had covered Thangmeiband and Khoyathong Polem Leikai.

DM College COVID-19 Relief Committee aid orphan homes
Reaching out to the less fortunate section of society, the COVID-19 Relief Committee DM College of Science Students' Union along with the staffs of the department visited the orphan homes in Mapao Zingtun of Kangpokpi district and provided them with food items.

The relief committee provided potatoes, rice, onions, edible oil and salt to the orphan homes in an effort to ease the situation inflicted by the lockdown.

The committee requested all to join hands and extend help to those in need during this trying time and also assured that it will continue its philanthropic work.

SUCO helps differently abled persons
While continuing its benevolent work of providing assistance to those impacted by the lockdown, the Singjamei United Clubs' Organisation (SUCO) COVID-19 24x7 Helpline Singjamei handed goods comprising of rice, daal, potato, cooking oil, bottle gourd, onion and other food items to two differently abled siblings Laishram Ramani and Samshong of Heirok Part-I, Thoubal district.

SUCO urged CSOs and other similar organisations to give more focus to the needy and people with special needs.

COVID-19 effect: Hill-valley people continue to help one another
Although COVID-19 is wreaking havoc across the globe, there is something good emerging out of it as the flow of brotherly support between hill and valley people keeps on passing across the State.

Since the imposition of Nationwide lockdown to contain the spread of the pandemic, relief efforts are being carried out by different State agencies and organisations.

As a part of the humane effort in this crucial time, village authorities, local clubs and women bodies of S Saheibung, Khoken, Boljang and L Jangnomphai villages under Kangpokpi district presented vegetables grown in their respective areas to the residents of neighbouring villages in Sangaithel area under Imphal West district today.

MLA of Lamsang Assembly Constituency and Deputy Chairman of the State Planning Board, S Rajen also attended one of the exchange programmes held at Kachikhun community hall and handed out 10 bags of rice to three of the villages as a mark of respect and gratitude.

Overwhelmed by the gesture, authorities of villages in Sangaithel area also assured that they will extend essential commodities to villages in Kangpokpi district who came out to present edibles under the aegis of local Churches.

MLA, S Rajen remarked that such an event in the time of crisis-induced by COVID-19 pandemic is extremely laudable and symbolises the bond of brotherhood between hill and valley people.

The chief of Saheibung village, Athang maintained the people of Saheibung and its neighbouring villages Kachikhun, Karong and Sangaithel have been living harmoniously and supporting one another in trying times since ages and will continue to do so.

Earlier in the day, items from hill villages were distributed at Sangaithel community hall.

Sangaithel residents who received the items also presented rice, potatoes, salts etc to the village representatives as a mark of regard.

A similar event was also held at Ibudhou Loyalakpa community hall, Karong.

The residents expressing their gratefulness presented the delegates of the hill villages with rice, dals, cucumber and other items.

In a similar spirit, International Human Rights Organization Manipur State and 20 Assam Rifles also extended edibles including rice to the residents of Khudengthabi and Langkhongching villages under Tengnoupal district.

The residents of the two villages also offered locally grown vegetables to the relief team which include president of International Human Rights Organization Manipur State, Oinam Jotin; ASP (Ops) Moreh, M Amit; Major Rithik of 20 AR Khudenthabi Post and Major Somorjit, Territorial Army, Khongkhang post.

International Human Rights Organization Manipur State led by its president, also handed out face masks, hand gloves, sanitizers etc to Moreh Police through M Amit, ASP (Ops) Moreh.

MPP reaches out
Manipur Peoples' Party (MPP) distributed edible items to the populace of Happy Valley Village under Saikul Assembly Constituency, today.

The distributed items include rice, potatoes, onions and varieties of vegetables.

Senapati Consumers Club and CAF & PD distribute relief materials
Senapati District Consumers' Club in collaboration with the Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution (CAF & PD), Senapati had begun distribution of COVID-19 Relief Assistance (Rice) to lockdown affected people of the district today.

The district Consumers' Club conducted the first phase of distribution to 3266 select beneficiaries (categorized under disabled, widows, widowers, old aged, orphans and sick persons from 10 village clusters of different blocks from the district.

The different beneficiaries under different categories included in the first phase consist of 81 villages under a cluster of villages that falls in Willong Khullen areas, Maram Khullen areas, Lairouching areas, Makhan-Tadubi areas, Makhrelui (DHQ) areas, Karong areas, Katomei areas, Oklong areas, Taphou areas and TNK/Council areas.

The district Consumers' Club along with officials from CAF & PD, Senapati distributed at Willong Khullen areas where the beneficiaries were distributed with 5 kg of rice each.

They were also dropped at their villages with the consignment.

The team were able to cover Willong Khullen village, Willong Khunou, Rajaimei and Sangkungmei village today.

The club expressed regret for those who had been missed out in the first phase but assured that they will be added as beneficiaries for the second phase distribution due to be held soon.
