Imphal, May 13 2013:
Sailent Village Authority has sought the attention of the State Government towards the miseries of Sailent villagers whose houses were burnt down recently by people from a neighbouring village over a boundary dispute.
Addressing media persons at Tangkhul Avenue Community Hall here today, David Shimray, a Member of the Village Council, said that the Sailent villagers have been living peacefully for the last many years and there is no boundary dispute with anyone.
He urged the State Government to announce a clear stance on Sailent Village and look into the problems being faced by the distressed villagers.
David lamented that about 36 houses in the village were burnt down recently by miscreants.
The village had only 37 households in 1965, but now it has grown up to about 66 households which pay hill house tax.
The village authority member also expressed his gratitude to all those who have rendendered their assistances to the villagers whose houses were burnt down.
He reiterated that Sailent Village has no dispute and the villagers have been living peacefully for many years.
The burnt down houses would be reconstructed through donations from various social organizations even without any assistance from the state government, David averred.
