Imphal, April 13 2009:
The campaign period of the Lok Sabha election to the Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency scheduled to be held on April 16 would come to an end by 4 pm of April 14 .
In this regard, Chief Electoral Officer of the State has directed that political functionaries/party workers of any political parties, procession functionaries, campaign functionaries or group, etc who have been brought from outside and are not voters of the Constituency should leave the Constituency immediately after the conclusion of the campaign period.
In a press note, CEO Shambhu Singh observed that their continued presence after the campaign period shall undermine the atmosphere for free and fair poll.
The CEO also informed that the movement of vehicles inside the Constituency immediately after the close of campaign period shall be watched strictly by the Deputy Commissioners/District Election Officers and Superintendents
of Police.
Any lapses in this regard will be viewed seriously and appropriate necessary actions will be taken in consultation with the Election Commission of India, the CEO said, adding that this directive is being issued in accordance to the standing instructions of ECI to ensure smooth conduct of free and fair poll and strict compliance of Model Code of Conduct of the election.
