Kohima, August 12:
In its first public statement after the rollback of comprehensive Naga ceasefire, Naga National Council (NNC), the pioneer of Under-ground movement in the North East, today condemned the Centre for its unilateral withdrawal of the truce, restricting it to Nagaland alone.
Charging the Centre of going back on its own commitment on the ceasefire, NNC General Secretary V Nagi, in a statement, said this (withdrawal) is not only an insult to NSCN (I-M) but also to all Nagas in general.
The Centre on July 27 restricted the comprehensive ceasefire reached on June 14 between the two sides in the face of violent anti-ceasefire protests in Manipur.
NNC, which had declared Naga Independence on August 14, 1947 and launched the underground movement under the leadership of legendary AZ Phizo in 1950s, also appealed to international community and organisations to condemn the Centres habitual contradiction, which is an insult to humanity.
The Council also extended support to the reported non-cooperation movement launched by southern Naga (Naga of Manipur) against Manipur Government to express their resentment against the rolling back of the comprehensive Naga ceasefire.
Although NNC is yet to enter into any ceasefire agreement with Centre, Nagaland Government has been insisting that it should also enter into similar arrangement with the Centre on the line of NSCN(IM) and NSCN(K) to create a congenial atmosphere and facilitate Naga peace process.
Welcoming the efforts of various Naga organisations and individuals towards finding an honorable solution to the vexed issue.
NNC secretary General called upon all Nagas to stand firmly in support of their inalienable rights and launched mass movement against systematic oppression and suppression on their rights.
