Imphal, May 12 2016:
Some contractors today sealed the CPWD office located inside the Imphal Airport complex on the ground that their pending liabilities have not been paid for a long time.
Speaking to media persons, CPWD Contractors' Association spokesman Subash Khumukcham said that there are two divisions of CPWD in Manipur namely Manipur Central Division No 1 and Manipur Project Division.
The ongoing construction work of NIT buildings at Langol was taken up under Manipur Project Division at the cost of over Rs 300 crore.
However, on account of lapses on the part of the authorities concerned, contractors are facing a grim situation where they may not get any money after they have already started executing the project, Subash said.
Although the working season is almost over and the rainy season is likely to set in any time, authorities have not paid Rs 25 crore which they owe the contractors.
Repeated reminders were submitted to the authorities to release the pending liabilities but to no avail so far.
This constrained the association to seal the CPWD office, he continued.
Subash said that they would keep the CPWD office under lock unless the pending liabilities are paid, contractors are consulted in the process of obtaining market rates, LOCs are forwarded in time and a regular Chief Project Manager is appointed.
