My Voice, Our Equal Future State celebrates International Day of Girl Child

The International Day of Girl Child 2020 was celebrated today at GM Hall, Imphal under the theme "My Voice, Our Equal Future" .
The programme organised by the Social Welfare Department was graced by its Commissioner, H Gyan Prakash and Director Ng Uttam as dais members.
At the programme, a short video The Dawn (Anouba Mangal) was released as part of Nasha Mukt Bharat campaign.
A friendly website for people with disabilities was also launched.
International Day of the Girl Child is a United Nations designated day, observed every year on October 11 .
Delivering a keynote address, Ng Uttam stated that the main objective of organisng this day is to end gender-based discrimination and to bring forth an egalitarian society.
Saying that the Government launched "Beti Bachao Beti Padhao" campaign to make girls independent, both monetarily and socially, he added that parents too can play an important role in promoting gender equality.
H Gyan Prakash also spoke at the event.
He said that empowering girls require their active participation in the decision making process and the active support and engagement of their parents, legal guardians, families as well as boys and men.
Working towards the welfare of the girl child to provide them equal access to education, nutrition and job opportunities would not be at the cost of boys and men, Gyan Prakash maintained.
He then urged all to remove gender inequality in their homes, offices, society and community for a healthier and productive society.
Bharat Vikas Parishad ( BVP), Manipur Prant in association with Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW), Govt Of Manipur jointly observed 'International Day of Girl Child' on the theme 'Beti Badhao, Beti Padhao, Beti Basao, Beti Apnao' at Eramdam Ningol Sanglen run by Rural Voluntary Services (RVS), Wangbal Mayai Leikai, Thoubal District; Chon's Memorial Blessed Children Home, Chandel District and Chingmeirong Nepali Basti, Imphal East District.
Various items such as sanitary pads, edible items, stationery items, sanitizers and soaps sponsored by BVP, Mahila Sakha, BVP, Linthoingambi Sakha, BVP, Imphal Sakha and M/S Eastern Motors, Imphal were distributed to girls and women present during the programme.
A poster campaign on Anaemia Free Manipur, a pet project of BVP, Manipur were also displayed at these places as part of the programme.
