Chadong victims identified as would-be surrenderees

All the three individuals slain in a reported encounter with Assam Rifles troops at Chadong village in Ukhrul district yesterday have turned out to be UG cadres who had shun the path of violence and had given themselves up to an AR officer for formal surrender.
The deceased victims have been identified as Laishram Nobin alias Khuman (42) s/o Shyamkishore, Ningthoujam Ingocha (42) s/o late Pashot, both belonging to Tumukhong Awang Leikai, Imphal East district and Irengbam Roshan alias Boycha (26) s/o Ibomcha of Khagempalli Ningom Leirak.
All three of them were handed over to 23 AR Maphou post commander Major Hanuman along with weapons at a spot known as Hidalok about half a kilometre away from Loupheng village bus waiting shed near Maphou Dam at about 7.30 am yesterday.
This was disclosed by Shyamkishore, father of slain Nobin while talking to media persons at RIMS morgue today.
All three of them were cadres of Manipur National Liberation Front.
Earlier Nobin was working in finance section of KYKL.
Sometime back, Nobin conveyed to Shyamkishore his desire to surrender to the State.
The matter was raised with Major Hanuman (then Captain), said Shyamkishore who is also chairman of the village authority.

The Major also asked Shyamkishore not to tell any one about the arrangement.
At the instruction of the AR Major, the father-son duo went to a specified place on the intervening night of May 8 and 9 but none came out to receive them.
"Last morning, my son called me through mobile phone and all three of them were handed over to a team of Assam Rifles along with lathod gun and M 16 rifle in front of my own eyes", Shyamkishore said.
"But it turned out that I was handing over my own son to some monsters", the bereaved father wept.
He said that they received news about a quarrel among villagers at Chadong, but the new of gun-fight was received only this morning.
All three of them who were alive and wearing track pants last morning were found dead in combat fatigue at RIMS morgue today, he cried out.
