NIDHI Accelerator Road Show Programme held at CAU Imphal

The Central Agriculture University (CAU) Imphal in association with Indigram Labs Foundation, New Delhi, organised "NIDHI Accelerator Road Show Programme" on the theme 'Climate Change, Land Restoration & Food Security' today.
The programme at the premises of the College of Agriculture, CAU Imphal was attended by CAU Vice Chancellor Professor M Premjit Singh, chief programme coordinator Indigram Labs Foundation Kamal Khurana as chief guest and president respectively while Director (Extension Education) CAU imphal Dr RK Saha, General Manager NABARD Satyasai Kovvali, Joint Director (i/c) ICAR Manipur Centre Dr I Meghachandra Singh, Mission Director MIDH & Project Director MOMA, Department of Horticulture & Soil Conservation K Devdutta Sharma attended as guests of honour.
At the event, CAU VC Prof M Premjit stressed the 'superiority' of the produces such as ginger, turmeric, pineapple etc grown in the State and said that farmers should be encouraged to adopt affordable new and improved agricultural technology to increase their produces.
Expressing concern, he said that there is decline in number of farmers in India and underscored that such trend will have negative impact on the food security.
Reducing farming activities will lead to low output of produces and increasing import of raw materials from other countries, he said emphasising the needs to encourage farmers and provide them with technology required to carry out farming more efficiently.
Attracting youth to adopt agriculture and allied activities is key to development, he said.
Commenting on the staple food of the North-East Indians, he said that after twenty year, the rice produce in the region will not be enough to sustain its population.
Farmers of the region should grow high yielding variety of rice to increase their yield, he added.
