Imphal, November 09 2021:
The newly floated revolutionary group Socialist Revolutionary Party, Kangleipak (SOREPA) has condoled the demise of renowned activist "Ima Mangi" of Singjamei Kakwa Naorem Leikai yesterday.
Ima Mangi (70), originally from Moirang Tongbram Leikai, was a respected leader of Khwairamband Keithel vendors, recalled SOREPA in a condolence note.
Having faced many challenges of life since her early age, Ima Mangi was at forefront in many social issues and has been known for her clarion call and encouragement to unemployed youth to develop work culture and free the market from being controlled by non local labourers and businessmen, SOREPA said.
She had greatly influenced many youth to replace non local labourers working at Khwairamband Keithel with her slogan "Our market and economy should be ours, come out and join hands in saving our economic integrity", SOREPA said.
Besides her activities at Ima Keithel which she considered a miniature Manipur, she led in campaigns for unity and integrity of the State, for rights and safeguarding of indigenous communities, promotion of local language and scripture and stood up on many occasions against the violation of human rights, use of excessive and brute forces etc, SOREPA said.
Foreseeing the hazardous impact to sections depending on local handloom and handicraft business, she also recently came out strongly against the flooding of machine crafted clothing items and campaigned to immediately stop vending such products and encouraged sale and use of local products only, it added.
Though Ima Mangi passed away, she will remain an idol to many youth earning their livelihoods by taking up menial but encouraging works, said SOREPA with much reverence and respect.
While sharing grief with the bereaved family members and relatives, SOREPA also urged all to remember Ima Mangi's slogan "Ima Keithel kallasi, eikhoigi senmitlon kallasi, eikhoigi shaktam kallasi" .
