Imphal, July 09:
The Centres move to review the ceasefire agreement with the NSCN (IM) evoked sharp reaction from political parties and leading NGOs in Nagaland.
Taking strong exception to the move, the Nagaland Peoples Council (NPC), a regional political party, said it will would wait and see how the extension of ceasefire with NSCN (IM) was reviewed.
Party president Huska Sumi said any change in the hand-bargained ceasefire truce, covering all Naga inhabited areas of the Northeast, would only jeopardizes the ongoing peace process.
The Naga Peoples Movement for Human Rights (NPMHR), a leading NGO of the State, expressed apprehension that any backtrack from the truce might derail the peace process.
The Naga people who had been struggling for bringing peace to all Naga inhabited areas should not be underestimated, Ningulu Krome, the Convenor of NPMHR said.
A similar concern was expressed by the Naga Student Federation on the issue of review of the ceasefire agreement.
The Centre has agreed to review the ceasefire agreement with NSCN (IM), including its extension beyond Nagaland, at a meeting of all political parties of Manipur with Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in New Delhi last night.
Meanwhile the president of Napa Peoples Organization, R James in a statement said the decision to review the ceasefire agreement may lead to unpredictable consequences from the Naga people, adds Our Staff Reporter.
The statement of Union MoS for Home ID Swami at Kolkata airport smacks of insincerity on the part of the Indian Government, said NPO.
