Imphal, June 09 2020:
The Kuki Inpi Kangpokpi after consulting with various civil bodies of the district has decided to impose an 'intense' economic blockade along National Highway 2 from midnight of June 12 over the 'controversial' National Sports University at Haraothel.
Lamminlun Singsit, general secretary, Kuki Inpi Kangpokpi district said that members of organisation, Vaiphei People's Council and Kuki Women Union Sadar Hills were "intentionally insulted by the Chief Minister during his visit to the National Sports University site at Haraothel today by instructing his security personnel to restrict us meeting him on the spot" .
He continued that despite such extreme negligence and "insult" by the Chief Minister, they tried hard to meet him as they believed negotiation would bring solution to any problem.
Finally, through DC Kangpokpi, N Biren Singh invited them to meet at his Bungalow.
"We went to meet him at his Bungalow when he left the National Sports University in the afternoon," however, the same treatment was meted out to us by the Chief Minister, he claimed.
"We waited for hours after submitting our details including names outside the gate.
When the situation become intolerable, we had to return without meeting him," he said.
"The National Sports University, as agreed in the presence of YAS Minister Letpao Haokip, shall be called National Sports University Haraothel.
However, N Biren Singh Government has always called it intentionally as NSU Koutruk breaching all the agreement," he said.
"The issue is also still pending at the office of National Commission for Scheduled Tribe as the State Government is yet to furnish the evidence sought by the commission years back," asserted Lamminlun Singsit.
He said that while the Chief Minister is very much aware of the 'controversial' National Sports University, he has been always trying to bulldoze the matter without consulting all the stakeholders.
While condemning the alleged sinister motive and the treatment the CM had meted out to the apex body and the CSOs of the district, Lamminlun Singsit said, "we have been tolerating the ill-treatment especially in the controversial NSU issue and now we have decided not to endure any more of such treatment" .
Giving 3 days to the State Government to resolve the issues, he said that the organisations will be imposing 'intense' economic blockade along the National Highway 2 if the Chief Minister doesn't respond "to us in a very cordial and positive note" .
Lamminlun Singsit pointed out that Kangpokpi district is the only hill district strongly restraining from extreme stir after the popular 123 days agitation in 2011 over Sadar Hills districthood demand.
"It will be very unfortunate if we are compelled to open up the door of anger once again," he said.
