Woman held with demonetised notes

Some bank officials have allegedly offered a woman to exchange demonetised old currency notes with new notes at a commission of 55 per cent.
This was disclosed by a woman identified as Sanasam (O) Robita Devi (46) w/o S Arunkumar of Kongba Makha Nandeibam Leikon who was arrested by police along with Rs 450,000 (Rs four lakh in old 1000 notes and Rs 50,000 in old 500 notes).
The IO concerned submitted before the Court of JMIC, Imphal West yesterday that the accused was carrying the old bank notes to exchange them with the legitimate notes at 55 per cent commission.
The accused was arrested by a team of Singjamei police station at around 1.30 pm of February 7 from Singjamei Bazar.
Some incriminating documents including passbooks and cheque books of different banks, ATM cards, bank deposit slips, two PAN cards issued in the name of Sagolsem Robita, one Aadhar card, two mobile phones and a Honda Activa were recovered from the possession of the Robita.
After hearing the IO and the counsel of the accused, the Court directed the accused to appear before the IO of the case every alternate days in the event of her release on bail after furnishing the required bonds for a period of one month.
