Hockey World Cup Trophy reaches city

Imphal, December 07 2022:
The trophy of the 2023 FIH Men's World Cup arrived at Imphal today for public display.
Reportedly, the trophy is touring 13 States and one Union Territory of which Guwahati in Assam and Imphal in Manipur are the only two cities included in the entire North East.
From Imphal, the trophy will be taken to Guwahati on December 8 .
The welcoming ceremony of the FIH Hockey Men's World Cup Trophy 2023 was held at Khuman Lampak.
At the ceremony, Governor La Ganesan said that the entire North East region is progressing in the field of sports with Manipur leading.
Continuing that Manipur is popularly known as the 'Power House' of sports in the country, the Governor maintained that the State has produced seven Olympians in Hockey so far despite being a small State.

Further stating that Manipur has produced many Olympians in other disciplines too, he stated that the Government of India is putting much efforts to improve the standard of sports in the country.
The Governor urged the Department of Youth Affairs & Sports to provide better infrastructure and training facilities to the players so as to win more laurels in international events.
The Hockey Men's World Cup 2023 will be played in Odisha in January next year.
Hockey is a popular sport in India, the Governor said and lauded Hockey India for their initiative to produce more world class players.
The Governor also thanked the organiser of the welcoming ceremony.
Later, the Governor displayed the trophy.
Youth Affairs & Sports Minister Govindas Konthoujam; Commerce & Industry Minister Nemcha Kipgen; Social Welfare Minister H Dingo, MLA Dr Th Radheshyam Singh and Kshetrimayum Thoiba Singh (Olympian) also attended the programme, among others.
