Imphal, April 07 2009:
To ensure free and fair voting in the Parliamentary elections scheduled to be held in two phases on April 16 and 22, Chief Secretary Rakesh today chaired a security coordination meeting.
The meeting attended by Additional Chief Secretary (Home), DGP, CEO and officials of CRPF, BSF and Assam Rifles decided to restrict movement of polling officials at night after voting is over.
The meeting held in the conference room of the Chief Secretary identified the areas of coordination among security agencies for the Lok Sabha elections.
To avoid any untoward incident, the meeting decided to put up polling officials at nearby security posts instead of allowing them to go to district headquarters or sub-divisional headquarters after the voting is over.
AR officials said that stringent instructions have been given to all Kuki UG groups under Suspension of Operation pact with the State and Central Governments not to play any mischief or disturbance during the Lok Sabha elections.
The meeting also deliberated on deployment of security forces for the two phase elections.
In addition to 38 companies of central paramilitary forces provided by the Union Home Ministry, 53 companies of State forces will also be deployed for election duty.
The Inner and Outer Parliamentary constituencies of the State go to polls on April 16 and 22 .
