Imphal, November 05 2009:
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has demanded a high level enquiry into alleged excessive corrupt activities of Chief Minister Okram Ibobi.
The party has also asked the AICC to take up necessary actions keeping in mind the people's movement for toppling Ibobi.
Speaking to media persons here today, BJP Zonal Organising Secretary (North East) P Chandrasekhar Rao accused Chief Minister O Ibobi of being deeply involved in corruption.
Chandrasekhar Rao is currently at Imphal to oversee the organisational elections of the BJP State unit.
Asserting that huge amounts of funds sanctioned for development projects have been misappropriated and turned into private assets, the BJP zonal organising secretary demanded constitution of a highlevel enquiry to probe into these corrupt practices.
"O Ibobi is only power thirsty but he has no craftsmanship for administration or governance.
Under such a leader, development only remains a mirage in Manipur", asserted Chandrasekhar.
He accused Chief Minister O Ibobi of doing nothing to check the escalating prices of essential commodities due to frequent bandhs/blockades called on one issue or another and collection of illegal taxes.
The failure of both the Prime Minister and the Home Minister to visit Manipur and make a direct assessment of the worsening law and order situation is clear indication of the UPA Government's casual attitude towards the issue, alleged Chandrasekhar.
As for the BJP, a high-level team have already visited the State and took stock of the situation here.
He said that the prevailing situation of Manipur would be put up and discussed in the winter session of Parliament starting from November 11 .
Observing that many precious lives of innocent youngsters have been cut short by the killing spree unleashed by security forces, the BJP functionary asserted that the people are demanding replacement of Chief Minister O Ibobi as both the State and Central Governments have been doing nothing to solve the issues and bring the guilty personnel to book.
AICC should listen to the people's voice and act accordingly, Chandrasekhar said.
BJP State unit president H Borbabu said that observed that the State Government has not initiated any move to fulfil any demand raised by people in connection with the July 23 Khwairamband killings.
Taking strong exception to the alleged ploy of the Government to continue administration by drawing a dividing line among the people with regard to the protest movement against the July 23 killing, Borbabu cautioned that a deeper crisis would unfold if the Government does not work out a solution and bring students to classrooms without further delay.
A team of BJP State unit would go to Delhi during winter session of the Parliament with a written representation about the law and order situation of Manipur, inability of students to attend class and rampant corruption being witnessed in the State so that BJP national leaders take up all these issues in the Parliament, Borbabu said.
A protest demonstration would also be staged at Delhi while Parliamentary session is going on.
All efforts would be made to field a common candidate of all non-Congress parties in the by-election to Yaiskul AC.
In case, no consensus can be reached among the political parties, BJP would certainly field its candidate and fight the by-poll on its own, Borbabu iterated.
