Lamka, May 05 2013:
The Medecins Sans Frontieres (Doctors without borders) today extended relief aid to victims of the triple storm who are taking shelter at two relief camps set-up at Khominthang, a heavily hit locality.
Additional DC Maniram Sharma, leaders of philanthropic organisations and other local officials were present when the MSF handed over the aid.
Wrapped in a sack, the package is said to have comprised of two pieces each of blankets, mosquito nets, carpets, towels, soaps and matches besides one
packet of candle.
A little over 30 families whose houses were destroyed by the storm are taking shelter at the PT Sports complex's hostel for the past three days.
Local philanthropic organisations have extended help to the storm victims across the district in reconstructing their houses and collected clothing and other material for them.
Additional DC Maniram said the MSF aid was part of the arrangement that was made during the district disaster management committee's emergency meeting he had convened soon after the storm wreak havoc in the district.
"We have been working overtime, exploring whatever means to help the victims," he added.
