Imphal, November 04 2012:
A break down in the power supply chain plunged almost the entire city of Imphal, into total darkness today.
Power supply was snapped even to the Raj Bhawan, where the Governor stays and it had to rely on its standby generator.
There was no power supply throughout the day in almost all the localities from early morning today with even the VIP connections or the Uninterrupted Power Supply Lines going without power.
Speaking to The Sangai Express Chief Engineer of the Power Department, Nandeibam Sarat said that the power break down is due to a fault on the 33 KV Line at Khuman Lampak.
The fault could not be localised, despite efforts from 6 am today, said the Chief Engineer and added that the rain compounded the problem of locating the fault.
Work is still on to identity the fault, he said and added that at the latest, power will be restored by tomorrow.
The State however received its due share of power allocation from the Regional Load Despatch Centre, Shillong.
At about 6 pm, the State received its share of about 95 megawatts said a source while speaking to The Sangai Express.
