Houses, school damaged in incessant rain at Noney

Imphal, June 04 2017:
Due to the incessant rainfall since the last 3/4 days in Noney district, seven houses including a school and a hostel at Khumji Lukhambi-2 have been damaged last night.
The situation got worse after the muddy water from railway tunnel construction sites flowed into the village.
All the affected villagers were assisted by Noney police team led by Additional SP L Luikham in shifting the properties.
In connection with the incident, Noney DC H Worshang and Haochong SDO Muhammad Asghar Arzad visited the spot.
A meeting was also held with affected villagers.
Lukhambi Village Authority said that firm action will be taken up against the Railway Companies if necessary steps are not initiated to ease the suffering of the affected villagers.
Many dwelling houses, roads, paddy fields and farms have been severely affected since from the beginning of the railway tunnel construction work.
Despite submission of memorandums to the authorities concerned for providing compensation for the damages, no positive action has been initiated till date.
DC L Luikham also assured to apprise the matter to the authorities concerned for immediate action.
Around 200 villagers including hostellers are now taking shelter in neighbouring houses.
