Imphal, May 04 2016:
Academic activities continued to remain suspended at Manipur University today as sections of the students staged protest demanding the MU authority not to revoke the two resolutions adopted by the Deans' Committee.
Academic activities were hit yesterday as Manipur University Tribal Students' Union (MUTSU) called for revocation of the two resolutions adopted by the Deans' Committee.
MUTSU has been launching a series of protests and it continued till today where students were seen staging a sit-in-protest at the University campus.
Meanwhile, a large number of University students staged a protest today demanding adoption of the two resolutions adopted by the MU Deans' Committee on April 4 on reservation matter norms set by the University Grants Commission.
The protesting students tried to barge into the Academic block hampering all activities today.
Large number of students raised series of slogans denouncing the alleged incompetent authorities for revoking the resolution taken by the Dean's Committee on April 4.
PhD student, Earth Science Dept Yengkhom Rajiv asked why the Vice-Chancellor of Manipur University is afraid to pursue the revised norms set by UGC.
Revoking a resolution of Deans' Committee on sympathy ground and challenging the UGC norms is not acceptable at any cost.
If resolution of the authorities can be revoked again and again on pressure from certain protests, there can be no Central University and it shows incompetency of the University's authority and the Vice-Chancellor and they all must resign on moral ground, he asserted.
He added that earlier MU has been flaunting various norms and once again the authorities are trying to do so.
If the norms are followed, retaliatory action from UGC could lead to disastrous results.
To prevent such happenings University students will not remain silent spectators, he added.
After representatives of students met authorities of MU including the Vice-Chancellor they all agreed to obtain the Court's verdict on the reservation policy in the admission process to various courses of the university and also seek clarification from the Ministry of Human Resource Development and UGC at the earliest.
Further the meeting also agreed to place the matter regarding reservation policy in admission to various courses of the University in the Academic Council for a decision.
