Death of VDF man: Govt to institute judicial enquiry

The decomposed body of Ningombam Premananda has been deposited at JNIMS mortuary today after carrying out an inquest of the mortal remains and the place where it was found.
The VDF personnel who went missing on January 21 was found dead near Levanant village in Chandel district yesterday.
N Premananda (37), s/o of Dina of Thoubal Okram Leikai was a part of the security team which went to Phaisi in Chandel district to destroy poppy plantations on January 16 .
Meanwhile, the JAC formed in connection with the death of N Premananda has reached an agreement with the State Government to conduct a judicial enquiry by a retired Judge and complete it within three months.

The agreement was signed by Ningombam Wanglen Meitei, JAC's the representative and DIGP (Range II) Ningshen Worngam.
As per the agreement, the Government agreed to provide a suitable job to the wife of N Premananda and assistance to his two children and erect a memorial stone in honour of the VDF personnel.
Representatives of the JAC held talks with Chief Minister N Biren today.
Premananda's body was found by a joint team of Thoubal and Chandel police in a highly decomposed state last night at around 6.30 .
This morning, a team of Forensic experts went to the site where the body was found and carried out an inquest before the police team picked it up at around 9.30 am .
