A BSF jawan attached to the 128th Bn and stationed at Chothe village reportedly went berserk last night and assaulted a number of persons after breaking into their homes at Bishnupur and even misbehaved with women.
The jawan was, however, overpowered along with his service weapons and later handed over to the BSF authority and police.
The personnel is identified as Karan Singh (30) of Rajasthan.
According to reports, the BSF man managed to open the door of a house at Nachou Khunou at about 12.30 am and tip toed inside.
The owner of the house, Sanayai Khuman (58) however woke up and gave chase to the BSF man.
The BSF personnel later fell into a pond.
Sanayai's son also joined and they managed to overpower the BSF jawan and after a sound thrashing tied him up.
Later about 7/8 BSF personnel came to the spot and took away Karan Singh after beating up the father and son.
Sanayai longed a strong protest with the Bishnupur police.
This was, however, not the end.
At 2 am Karan Singh attired in a bullet proof vest and armed with an AK-47 rifle and one 9 mm pistol descended upon the home of one Moirangthem Manaoton (61) at Nachou Panthong.
Karan herded all the members of the family into a room and assaulted Manaoton, who fainted.
Manaoton's sons Basanta and Bigyan managed to escape and reported the matter to the Bishnupur police.
The BSF jawan incensed on learning that two had escaped threatened to kill all the family members and butted another son of Manaoton, Robindro on the head.
On seeing this, the wife of Manaoton started screaming.
Karan then opened three rounds of blank fire and.
escaped.
Robindro was later taken to Bishnupur hospital.
His next stop was the house of one Nongmaithem Khomei (60) at Nachou Kha Maning Leikai.
At the time Khomei was at the toilet.
Karan Singh went upto the room where the wife and daughter of Khomei were sleeping and started pulling their clothes.
He threatened them to keep quiet and asked them to turn off the light.
The women, however, refused and Karan Singh opened two rounds of blank fire.
Karan Singh escaped after tying up Khomei who had just come out of the toilet.
The jawan then came to the house of another at Kha Potshangbam.
There he opened on round of fire and assaulted the owner of the house Sanatomba and his son Manglem.
Not satisfied the BSF man then proceeded towards the house of Sanatomba�s elder brother's house, Ibotombi.
He went upto the room where the daughter and son of Sanatomba was sleeping and locked himself in.
The son, however, managed to escape.
The young girl was threatened at gun point to keep quiet.
At that point of time villagers had gathered round the house.
Police and BSF personnel also arrived at the scene and the young girl made a run for her life.
Karan Singh opened fire but fortunately no one was hurt.
Karan Singh was over powered by the police and BSF and he was handed over to Bishnupur police for custody.
However the BSF authority is yet to give the service arms of Karan Singh to the police.
