Imphal, October 02 2022:
Former rebel leader RK Meghen has cautioned that legalising liquor would be counterproductive to the society as there is no habit of healthy drinking among the majority of the people in Manipur.
He also said that the Government must keep the matter of revenue collection aside while taking up such a crucial matter and evaluate the harm it will inflict to the society in advance.
RK Meghen made the statement at the 8th foundation day of JCNT Building Solutions at Sangaiprou, today.
Maintaining that ganja can also be legalised if the Government goes ahead with lifting prohibition, the former rebel leader said the State can also earn revenue by selling the oil extracted from cannabis used in cancer treatment.
Saying that even adolescents might start to drink openly if the State legalises liquor and it would be detrimental to the society, the former rebel leader asked whether the people are allowed to speak against the the policy of the Government.
On the rights of workers, RK Meghen stated that there would be a movement of workers/labourers if rights entitled to them aren't respected.
When it comes to socioeconomic, the State is at the back seat which depends on others for almost everything, he said and continued that an influx of workforce from outside is a threat to the society and the State is in a situation where many indigenous people couldn't even earn two square meals a day.
He then appealed to all concerned to respect the rights of the workers/labourers so as to improve the socioeconomic status of the State.
Managing Director of JCNT Building Solutions Sanamahi Khundrakpam also attended the programme.
