Mt Koubru trekker tests positive

The Thadou Inpi Kangpokpi district has urged the State Government and the district administration to seal trekking to Mt Koubru after a trekker to the peak was found infected with COVID-19 .
A 23 year old man who was among the trekkers to Mt Koubru on April 27 has been tested positive on April 29 at CMC Korengei.
A source from the man's locality confirmed that he was found infected with COVID-19 when tested at CMC Korengei on April 29 .
He had climbed Mt Koubru on April 27 .
However, the source believed that he might have be already infected before trekking to the peak.
It may be recalled that hundreds of trekkers on daily basis had climbed Mt Koubru since April 21 .
Following the surge in Covid infection and fatalities in the State, Kangpokpi district police have upped monitoring and enforcing strict Covid advisory and guidelines.
The Sadar Hills Chiefs' Association has also appealed to all to suspend the trek to the mountain taking the situation into consideration.
The Thadou Inpi Kangpokpi district said that the detection of positive case among the trekkers is a matter of concern for the public and added that several appeals were made to avert such unwanted developments.
It cautioned that the State Government and the district administration should be held responsible for any untoward incident at this critical juncture.
Meanwhile, Kangpokpi police as part of imparting awareness on the SOPs and guidelines of Covid especially among the trekkers to Mt Koubru, put up various banner with Covid awareness scripts such as 'Always wear masks and follow COVID-19 SOPs', 'Don't litter, keep Mt Koubru neat and clean' at the top of the peak and all entry points.
As trekkers continue to climb Mt Koubru, Kangpokpi police teams led by Addl SP(Ops), Addl SP (LO), DSP, and other subordinate officials also continued to monitor the movement of trekkers at various locations at Damdei, Kholep, Mangjol, etc.
while registering entry of trekkers going up and coming down apart from enforcing Covid appropriate behaviour.
