Workshop on bird count on Jan 28,29

Imphal, January 25 2023:
The Indian Bird Conservation Network (IBCN) will organise a two-day workshop on identification of water birds and counting technique at Mangolnganbi College, Ningthoukhong on January 28 and 29 to prepare for ihe census exercise which will commence from February 5 at 50 counting sites in Loktak Lake.
In a release, state coordinator RK Birjit Singh informed that IBCN, Manipur has been officially coordinating the Loktak Water bird Census activities since the last 15 years as a part of the Asian Water bird Count (AWC) under the directive of BNHS, Mumbai, Birdlife International and Wetland International.
The AWC is part of the global International Water bird Census (IWC) while the Citizen Science programme is supporting conservation and management of wetlands and water birds worldwide, Birjit informed.
Several higher educational institutions and NGOs are joining the event which is supported by Directorate of Environment & Climate Change, Department of Forest and Loktak Development Authority (LDA), added the release.
