State duo awarded Akademi prize

H Shyamsunder Singh and Bhawani Adhikari have been awarded with Sahitya Akademi Translation Prize 2020 for their translation works in Manipuri and Nepali respectively.
Sahitya Akademi on Saturday approved selection of 24 books for the Sahitya Akademi Translation Prize 2020.H Shyamsunder has been selected for his book Athum-Ahao Yonba Nupa' which is a translation of English novel 'The Vendor of Sweets' by RK Narayan, while Bhawani Adhikari was chosen for his book 'Euta Pistol Euta Kunda Puspa' which is a translation of Manipuri short story collection 'Pistol Ama Kunda Lei Ama' by Elangbam Dinamani, it added.
Meanwhile, Nepali Sahitya Parishad Manipur has congratulated its president Bhawani Adhikari on his selection for the prestigious Award.
In a release, the Parishad stated that Bhawani Adhikari is a renowned bilingual (Nepali and Manipuri) language writer who has written dozens of books.
He translated Elangbam Dinamani's 'Pistol Ama Kunda Lei Ama' into Nepali language as 'Euta Pistol Euta Kunda Puspa' published in the year 2019.He is the first Manipuri Gorkha to be selected for the Sahitya Akademi Award, it added.
