Imphal, July 28 2022:
The 5-day festival of traditional folk dance organised by Manipur Integrated Cultural Centre (MICC), Keirao Khunou under the sponsorship of Ministry of Culture concluded at JN Dance Academy here on Thursday.
Speaking at the valedictory function, JN Manipur Dance Academy retired guru H Ibochouba highlighted that several art forms including 'Thang-ta' and other traditional dances have been in practice since time immemorial consequently enhancing Manipur's profile before the world.
He also maintained that such art forms signified the identity of being Meitei.
While stressing the need to impart knowledge of such cultures to the younger generations, Ibochouba opined that the younger generations seem to lack discipline and respect for tradition.
Thus, it is imperative that present scholars and artistes teach the younger ones about the beautiful culture of the land.
The function was attended by Sangeet Kala Akademi awardee P Dhanajit among others.
Later, artistes of MICC presented Thang-ta and several traditional dance performances as a part of the valedictory function.
