Bodies warn of halting NH-102 work

A conglomerate of five villages in Tengnoupal district has on Friday warned of halting all ongoing works for expansion of the Imphal-Moreh NH-102 (previously NH 39) from December 6 if their pending grievances are not addressed by competent authorities and state government.
A joint statement released by leaders of the area namely Kongkhang village chairman Y Peter Chothe, Sibong Khudengthabi village chief Ch Pacho Kom, TM Zoumunnuam village secretary Thangkam Haokip, K Zalenmuol village chief Seikhojang Haokip and H Mongjang village chief Lelet Haokip said that their grievances have been kept pending for long now by National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) despite repeated reminders.
It said they have been compelled to halt the expansion work until their grievances are addressed.
The village leaders clarified that the shutdown is never intended to disrupt infrestructure development projects but they have been left with option other than launch the agitation to draw effective attention of the authorities concerned.
It also said that continuation of works may be allowed only after arriving at a solution.
