PRIs end general strike, to continue stir

Imphal, January 28 2022:
The 36-hour general
strike called by Manipur
State Panchayat Parishad
concluded without any
major untoward incident
but the Parishad declared it
would launch different forms
of agitation until the government
releases the fund
sanctioned by the Central
government entirely.
Addressing a press meet
in this regard at SIRD hall
located within the Imphal
East DC Complex, Porompat
here on Friday, PRI Adhoc
Committee convener P
Surbala said that they will
go to the national capital to
apprise the problems faced
by the PRIs in the state to
the Prime Minister and the
Union rural development
minister.
They will also organise
sit-in protest in Delhi.
Prior to their Delhi visit, all
the PRIs will organise sit-in
protests in their respective
areas on Saturday, she said.
She also thanked the public
for their cooperation during
the 36-hour general strike.
She demanded the state
government to release the
Rs 113.44 crore fund sanctioned
by the Centre at the
earliest if the government
truly wants to bring development
in rural area.
As the government has not
utilised the fund released
by the Centre for e-shram
portal till date, there is also
uncertainty regarding the
release of second instalment
for 2021-22, Surbala added.
