UFM states stand on candidates

United Front Manipur (UFM), an alliance of 13 political parties, has announced that it will field common candidates in 12 constituencies in the upcoming 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly Elections, while it will extend support to candidates from different political parties in the remaining 48 constituencies.
Addressing newspersons at Manipur Press Club here Saturday, UFM chairman Sapam Shamungou said that the Front will be fielding common candidates only in 12 constituencies of the state.
The Front has already announced the candidates for four constituencies namely Heirok, Khangabok, Kshetrigao and Patsoi.
Efforts are on to announce the names of the remaining 8 candidates, he added.
Although the Front can field candidates in all 60 constituencies with convenience, it is important to keep the people's interest in mind and to facilitate election of the best candidates for the welfare of the people, Shamungou said.
He further informed that UFM will not contest in Lamsang AC but will support candidate Wangkheimayum Sumati.
The Front will take up the issue of AFSPA, border, economic, environment, corruption, etc., he revealed.
