N Hiyainu, wife of chief minister N Biren, inaugurated Prabia Emporium's handloom products showroom 'Laninganbi' at Singjamei Chingamathak, here on Monday.
Speaking on the occasion, Hiyainu opined that apart from opening showroom for physical shopping, adopting online marketing could boost productivity in the handloom sector.
The sector needs to tap in the modern technology to expand the area of operation even so as to attract global consumers, she said.
Prabia Emporium's proprietor Prabia Salam said that after participating in the tourism festival of the .state in 2009 and 2010, she decided to design a product featuring Sangai and Shirui Lily to promote handloom products of the state as well as tourism.
Coincidentally, the government declared its decision to rename the tourism festival as Sangai Festival from 2011 onwards.
She then designed patterns of Sangai and Shirui Lily for Thambal Leikhok and named them Lamnganbi Mayek.
However, she could not mass produce the design due to financial issues.
Launch the showroom is a dream come true for her, she said.
