Imphal, September 25 2021:
Members of All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) on Saturday locked the office room of MOBC director over alleged non-releasing of the Pre-Matric and Post Matric Scholarship of students.
Speaking at a press meet held at its head office, AMSU vice president Laishram Athouba recounted that Union's HRD secretary had submitted a memorandum to MOBC director on September 7 requesting for release of the pending Pre-Matric and Post Matric Scholarship.
On the next day, the Union president had served 15 days' time for distributing the scholarship amount.
But so far nothing has happened, considering this the Union members locked up the room of MOBC director, he added.
L Athouba warned that Saturday's protest is not the last one, if the authorities concerned do not release the scholarship, as they are ready to launch even more intense agitation at any time.
Covid-19 pandemic has made scholarship even more necessary for students belonging to poor families, he pointed out and suggested that the government look into the matter and release the scholarship at the earliest.
