CM, minister greet on Sankirtana Day

Chief minister N Biren Singh and Consumers Affairs, Food & Public Distribution minister Th Satyabrata Singh greeted the people of the state on the auspicious occasion of Sankirtana Day, which falls on December 4 .
In his message, N Biren said that Sankirtana is the fourth Indian art form recognised by UNESCO as 'Intangible Cultural Heritage'.
Sankirtana encompasses an array of arts performed for religious occasions and various stages in the life of Manipuri Vaishnavites.
It establishes and reinforces relationships between the individual and the community through life-cycle ceremonies.
Sankirtana also promotes an organic relationship with people, he said and urged the people to preserve and promote such rich art from which is being transmitted from generation to generation.
Satyabrata in his message said, Sankirtana" practices.
that depict the lives and deeds of Krishna through song, music and dance enthral our minds with aesthetic and religious energy in an unparalleled way.
These practices deserve special attention for an art and culture rich state like Manipur, he said.
