Imphal, March 31 2023:
Congress party has alleged that the BJP preplanned disqualification of Rahul Gandhi from the Lok Sabha while anticipating that the Congress leader would rock the Parliament session over the unholy nexus between PM Modi and Gautam Adani, better known as 'Modani' nowadays, and misappropriation of huge amount of public money by the duo.
District committees of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) conducted press conferences at district offices in protest against disqualification of Rahul Gandhi from the Lok Sabha subsequent to his conviction by a lower court in Gujarat.
In one such media briefing by City District Congress Committee at Nongmeibung community hall on Friday, MPCC vice president Haresh-war Goswami claimed that conviction of Rahul Gandhi by a lower court in Surat, Gujarat and his disqualification from the Lok Sabha was plotted by BJP to cover up the ruling party's anti-people activities.
BJP knew that Rahul Gandhi would expose secretive activities of 'Modani' in the Parliament and accordingly disqualified the Congress leader from the Lok Sabha after hatching a plan.
According to Hareshwar, petitioner of the defamation case that led to conviction of Rahul Gandhi with two years jail term, himself appealed to the Gujarat high court for staying the case and was accordingly stayed.
The defamation case was filed based on the remark made by Rahul Gandhi on Lalit Modi, Nirav Modi and Narendra Modi during an election campaign at Kolar in Karnataka on April 13, 2019 .
Rahul Gandhi's comments at the election campaign were not against Modi surname collectively but he simply questioned how the three Modis were clubbed in a surname.
Interestingly, a BJP MLA named Purnesh Modi filed a defamation case at CJM court in Surat, Gujarat on April 16, 2019.However, the petitioner himself made an appeal to the Gujarat high court on March 7, 2022 for staying the case and accordingly the court stayed the case, Hareshwar Goswami said, adding that none of the three Modis whom Rahul Gandhi mentioned in his election speech filed the defamation case.
