Imphal, May 21 2021:
BJP Manipur Pradesh spokesperson and MDS chairman M Asnikumar, who is also an environmentalist, said that love for all living creatures is the noblest attribute of man.
In his message on the occasion of National Endangered Species Day, Asnikumar called upon the people to remind themselves of the pressing need to protect and care for those species which are on the verge of being wiped out.
As responsible countrymen, people owe it to their future generations to leave behind a nation where these beautiful creatures live in peace and harmony with human kind, without the perils of extinction.
This is the kind of example the present generation needs to set for the future generations.
The world famous Sangai has had a touch and go affair with extinction since the last 6-7 decades due to low population.
Although, their numbers have improved encouragingly they still remain in the endangered category.
This implies that the mission is not yet accomplished for those who truly care for them.
He further said that since the last three decades he has been involved in conservation activities of this species and its habitat, the Keibul Lamjao National Park (which started facing numerous ecological problems due to development projects undertaken in the past).
He has managed to stay involved in this mission for so long as he has a bond with this species in his heart.
It is a lifelong mission not bound by any condition and his only hope is his son's generation recognises and understands the beauty of being involved in long term projects of saving wildlife, he contended.
Further, he expressed his condolences on the demise of noted environmentalist Sunderlal Bahugana, the founder of Chipko movement, due to Covid-19.Calling him as one of his idols, Asnikumar said that the legendary environmentalist ignited a sense of ecological responsibility and ethos of love for nature among multiple generations, including his.
During his time as an active environmental activist, he met him twice with the excellent listener and humble man who was full of simple but touching thoughts.
His view on the earth was that humans are just tenants who have no right to riddle with the natural balance.
His life and works are stuff of legends and they will always remain an inspiration to him, Asnikumar said, while adding that his demise is a huge loss for the nation.
