Imphal, January 21 2022:
Special Judge (POCSO), Senapation Friday sentenced Santosh Limbu (22), who was convicted of raping a minor, to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment.
On January 18, the Court convicted Santosh Limbu of the crime and fixed Friday for pronouncing the quantum of punishment.
After listening to arguments of both sides during the sentence hearing on Friday, the Court sentenced Santosh to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and ordered him to pay a fine of Rs 20,000.The convict must pay the fine to the Court within 2 months and the amount should be handed over to the victim.
The time he spent in jail during the trial period will be commuted from his sentence.
The Court further ordered for a compensation of Rs 7.S lakh to be given to the victim within 60 days, as per Section 357 A (2) of CrPC, Section 33 (8) of POCSO Act and under National Legal Services Authority Compensation Scheme for Women Victim/Survivors of Sexual Assault/Other Crime, 2018.It also directed the District Legal Services Authority Senapati to take up all necessary actions in this regard.
