Sadar Hills DYCC stages protest against fuel price hike at Kpi

Kangpokpi, July 16 2021:
The Sadar Hills District Youth Congress committee (DYCC) in collaboration with its Assembly Youth Congress committees of Saikul, Saitu and Kangpokpi organized a mass protest against the rising prices of petrol, diesel and cooking gas at IT road, Oil pump Kangpokpi today.
The mass protest which was led by District Youth Congress president T Samuel Haokip emphasised on the role of youths in sensitizing the public in regards to the hike in fuel prices in the country and in the State.
He also asserted that the public can no longer remain as a mute spectator when it comes to dealing with the faulty taxation policy on fuel by the Narendra Modi led BJP Government at the centre and N Biren led BJP Government in the State.
The Youth Congress also displayed banners demanding the Centre and State Government to bring down the prices of petrol, diesel and cooking gases so that the poor and middle class families won't have to suffer unnecessarily due to their mismanagement.
The Youth Congress also displayed various placards criticising the BJP government over their vicious attempts to hike the prices of fuel on a daily basis.
Placards with the slogans, "Mr Modi stop looting your own fellow citizens", "People of India wants employment not inflation", "We want the economic package, not price hike", "Stop blaming the pandemic for rises in oil prices", "Stop blaming the previous regime for your incompetence and", "cluelessness", "Stop squeezing the poor and middle class", "Modi's Achche Din is a hike in price on petrol and diesel", "N Biren Singh Government must reduce VAT on Petrol and Diesel", "Don't torture people by price hike during a pandemic", etc.
Speaking to media persons, DYC's general secretary, Jangminthang Kipgen said that the symbolic protest against fuel price hike was held to convey the misery and hardships faced by the people while adding that BJP's "Achche Din" is now proving to be "Costly Din" as the people are seeking liberation from the expensive days of the BJP Government.
He also mentioned that the poor and the middle class which constitute 55% of the Country's population had been hit the hardest, the reason being their heavy dependence on the primary and the secondary sector which are directly affected by the rise in oil prices.
He also appealed to the Centre and the State government to cut the Excise duty and Valued Added Tax (VAT) respectively on Petroleum and its products or else, they should in a time bound manner bring it in the ambit of GST, so that its prices can be kept under check and balance.
Taking a jibe at the BJP Government, Jangminthang Kipgen said that the country imports crude oil at USD 74 per barrel and sells it at INR 105 in most of the States and cities while in the UPA regime, crude oil was imported at USD 112 per barrel and sold at INR 65 in the country.
He appealed to the Prime Minister to stop making all their excuses on the pandemic and to stop blaming the previous regime for everything.
It may be mentioned that petrol was reportedly sold at Rs 106.13 per litre and diesel at Rs 94.09 per litre at a petrol pump in Kangpokpi town.
