Imphal, November 09 2021:
The 77th Birth Anniversary of Meetei Mayek revivalist Chingsubam Akaba was observed by Wakhalon Mannaba Apunba (WAMA), Kangleipak at the final resting place of the late activist at Wakha Leima Ching on Tuesday.
As part of the observance, floral tributes were offered to the memorial bust of Akaba.
Speaking on the sidelines of the solemn function, WAMA president Moirangthem Naokhomba recounted that Akaba worked hard to unite the different communities of the state, in addition to putting his soul into reviving the Manipuri language and script.
It would be wrong and disrespectful of the present and future generations to forget Akaba's contributions, he said.
Naokhomba continued that Akaba's hard work has now paid off as the Meetei Mayek script could now be studied at the university level.
Akaba was a rare leader for the state.
The president then said that the observance was held to remember his (Akaba) contributions, strengthen the bond between the hills and the valley, and to further promote the Manipuri script.
During the observance, seven of Akaba's close friends and colleagues, namely Moirangthem Naodalenkhomba, ex-minister RV Mingthing, Thoudam Laiba, Ngangom Premkumar, Tokpam Thawailemba, Sairem Nilbir and the family of late S Kuleshwar were honoured with simple gifts.
