Imphal, October 06 2022:
Claiming that Manipur Apex Handloom Weavers' and Handicrafts Artisans' Cooperative Society Limited (AWAS) has become minting ground for some corrupt individuals leading to possible blacklisting, primary cooperative societies have sought intervention from the government to intervene and salvage the situation.
Addressing a joint press meet of primary cooperative societies at Manipur Press Club here on Thursday, Dyeing and Weaving Cooperative Society Limited secretary Ngangbam Nungshi said that AWAS is an apex body of different primary cooperative societies.
Its board members are elected by the primary societies and it acts as an important implementing agency for handloom and handicraft projects in the state.
Unfortunately some corrupt individuals have turned the body into corrupt platform, she alleged.
Due to corrupt practices of some individuals, the apex body has not been able to submit utilisation certificate in time, due to which the Centre had stopped sanctioning schemes and projects.
It is also on the verge of losing NHDC schemes, she said while urging the government to intervene and take up necessary steps to salvage the situation.
She also decried AWAS for not informing primary members about a block level cluster awareness programme held in Heingang on Tuesday.
