HERICOUN, WASEDEV back STDCM shutdown

Imphal, December 23 2021:
Ethno Heritage Council (HERICOUN) and Women Association for Socio Economic Development (WASEDEV) have declared that they will support the 18 hours total shutdown call of Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee Manipur (STDCM) from December 27 midnight in protest against the failure of state government to send the required recommendation for inclusion of Meetei/Meitei in the ST list.
In separate releases, the two organisations justified the demand and movement of STDCM and opined that it is for securing the future of Meetei/Meitei, help in protecting the community from vanishing from its birthplace.
Can the people protect the identity and the land when Trans Asian highways and railways pass through the small valley area of the state which does not have any safeguard and protection, they posed and cautioned that Meetei/Meitei will be overwhelmed by outsiders and will become extinct if constitutional protection is not given.
The releases further urged the people to support the totai shutdown and consider it as their responsibilities.
